Police: 2 shot during party near IUPUI campus

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two people were injured in a shooting near the IUPUI campus Saturday night, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

Officers responded to Indiana Avenue and West Street, across the street from the IUPUI campus, around 10 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene said there was a fight that broke out during a party. That fight spilled outside in front of the Walker Theater.

According to police, a patrol officer on a bike heard shots fired and saw one person down on the ground. Police then learned that two people had been shot. One victim was listed in critical condition, police said.

Officials at the scene said 600 juveniles attended the party at the theater and were held in a building downstairs by police while the scene remained active. Officers kept them inside for safety. Some time later, 400 of those juveniles were released.
