Police in Bloomington arrest man in 2006 rape
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – A man has been arrested in connection to a 2006 rape, according to the Bloomington Police Department.
Police say that on March 28, 2006, just before 11:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 300 block of East 2nd Street for a report of a sexual assault.
The victim told police that she had just arrived home, but was expecting her boyfriend a short time later so she left the door unlocked. The victim then got in the shower.
But as the female victim was showering, the suspect, 47-year-old Jamison Beedie, entered the apartment and then armed with a kitchen knife, ordered the woman out of the shower and into the bedroom, where the crime occurred, according to police.
Officers say during the assault, the victim’s boyfriend entered the room. Beedie was able to get out of the room and out of the apartment.
After the assault, the woman submitted to a forensic exam and evidence collection at a nearby hospital.
Then on Feb. 5, 2019, police in Bloomington learned from ISP that a match from between the evidence collected following the assault and an offender in the Combined DNA Index System database had been made.
On Feb. 8, a search warrant was executed on Beedie’s home and was then taken into custody.
He is currently in the Monroe County Jail, where he faces preliminary charges of rape and burglary.
