Police in Marion investigating after body found in garage

MARION, Ind. (WISH) – The Marion Police Department is investigating after a body was discovered in a garage Wednesday evening.

According to MPD, the body was found in the garage of a residence located in the 600 block of West 3rd Street just before 8:30 p.m.

Officers say the home’s owner, George Hollingsworth, stated that on March 12 he thought that his garage had been broken into and found that his garage door frame had sustained damage. Additionally, he also told police that he would begin cleaning his garage on March 13.

While cleaning his garage, Hollingsworth began looking into whether any items had been stolen. During this process, he discovered that an antique floor safe – weighing more than 900 pounds – had been knocked over. That’s when police say Hollingsworth found the body underneath the safe.

Officers say the safe had been suspended by a floor jack.

The name of the deceased individual has not been released.
