Police investigating after fatal crash involving bicyclist on city’s south side

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – Police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit and killed on the city’s south side Wednesday morning.

According to dispatch, officers responded to a call of bicyclist struck in the 8600 block of State Road 37 around 9:26 a.m.

Police said the fatal accident involved a truck and a bicycle.  After arriving on scene, officers discovered a female laying on the ground responsive suffering from extensive visible injuries.

Medical and fire personnel on scene pronounced the woman dead.

Investigators believe that the bicyclist was traveling north in the shoulder lane on State Road 37 when hit by the truck.

It is believed that the struck was traveling northbound at the time of accident and likely left the roadway.

56-year-old David Fields, the driver of truck that struck the bicyclist, has not been arrested.
