Police: Man crashes stolen vehicle, claims to be homeless

ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) A 26-year-old man faces multiple charges after police say he rolled a vehicle he had stolen early Tuesday morning just outside Angola.

At around 5 a.m. police received a call of a stolen vehicle in the 3000 block of South Old 27. At about the same time, they also received word of a rollover crash on Old 27 just south of the Angola city limits. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they determined the vehicle in the crash and the stolen vehicle were the same.

The driver, Jordan Elkins told police he was homeless. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was then taken to the Steuben County Jail on charges of auto theft, OWI and possession of paraphernalia.

Steuben County EMS, the Angola Police Department, Angola Fire Rescue and Indiana State Police all assisted the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.
