Police seek 8-year-old girl’s father in her shooting death
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are searching for the father of an 8-year-old girl as they seek answers about her Sunday shooting death.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office says the girl has been identified as Kendrielle Brye.
The girl was shot in a bedroom of a home in the 5600 block of Culver Street before the girl’s mother drove her about a half-mile to Indianapolis Fire Department Station 24, 5520 E. 38th St., around 5:40 p.m. Sunday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Police believe 40-year-old Kendall Brye is the girl’s father and was in the home at the time of the shooting, along with his 3-year-old son and the girl’s mother, IMPD Lt. Kerry Buckner said Sunday night.
The girl’s mother did not witness the shooting but took the girl to the fire station and went with her by ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the girl died there, police said.
The girl’s father fled the house on Culver Street with his 3-year-old son, who was later dropped off at Riley Hospital for Children by family members, Buckner said. Police believe Brye is driving a gray or silver 2016 Dodge Charger with license plate IP1340.
Police say they want to speak to Brye because they are missing key evidence and don’t know whether the shooting was a tragic accident or a homicide, Buckner said. Police said they have to consider the man to be armed and dangerous because he has cut off communications and police cannot find him.
If you have any information about where Brye is or what happened, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
