Police seek info on vehicles after fatal hit-and-run killed 2 pedestrians

WALTON, Ind. (WISH) – State police said Friday they are searching for multiple vehicles that traveled on U.S. 35 around the time two men were killed in a hit-and-run crash. 

Indiana State Police and Cass County Sheriff’s Department went to the crash about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27. The crash was on U.S. 35 near Engler Road and north of County Road 800 South. That’s just south of the town of Walton. 

Police think Zachary Wines, 26, of Walton, and Bryan Curry, 52, of Valparaiso, were in the road when they were struck. They were found dead on the highway.

The lead investigator, Detective Brent Ingram of the state police, issued a statement Friday:

“A small black or dark colored sedan (or coupe), followed by a small black or dark colored SUV, in addition to what appeared to be a Jeep Cherokee, were observed traveling southbound in the area. The Jeep Cherokee type vehicle  drove out of the Walton Maramart lot prior to traveling southbound on U.S. 35, towards the crash scene, near Cass County Road 800 South.

“There were also two vehicles observed traveling northbound on U.S. 35, near the crash scene. One vehicle was a gray or silver pick-up truck (possibly a Chevrolet), which pulled into the Walton Maramart for fuel. A black or dark colored pick-up truck, with a yellow flashing light, was also observed.”
