Police welfare check leads to drug arrests

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Three people were arrested early Friday morning after police went to do a welfare check on a juvenile and found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

WISH-TV sister station WANE News reported that around 12:40 a.m. police arrived at 1820 W 200 N lot 663, inside the Autumn Grove Trailer Park.

Nathan Strang of LaGrange, the father of the juvenile, attempted to destroy methamphetamine evidence, according to a police report from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.

However, despite his resistance, deputies were able to subdue Strang before any evidence could be destroyed.

A Topeka Police Department K-9 was also called in to investigate a vehicle parked outside the residence.

Police said the dog recognized the presence of narcotics, and when they searched the vehicle they found marijuana, methamphetamine, syringes, drug paraphernalia and a large amount of small individual baggies, usually used in narcotic sales.

Police then arrested two people in the car, Travis Harlan of Sturgis, Michigan and Tanecia Moore of LaGrange.

Strang was arrested and faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia.

Harlan and Moore were arrested and face charges of dealing marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of hypodermic needles and maintaining or visiting a common nuisance.
