PopCon comes to Indy this weekend
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Thousands of people will converge on downtown Indianapolis for Indy PopCon this weekend.
An event focused on comics, gaming, animation and movies, it’s the third year for the event and organizers say it continues to grow.
The three day event kicked off at the Indiana Convention Center on Friday.
“So we’ve got a lot of things set up this year, we’ve got the vendors, and everything is set up like it is normally. So you can go through check out the booths, we’ve got a lot of different genres covered here. This year, we’ve also got Pan Am Plaza, so we’re not just in the convention center, anybody coming down will be able to see live video gaming events, they will all be streamed to twitch.” Indy PopCon Owner Brian Dowded said.
Visit Indy is expecting a $1.5 million boost to the local economy thanks to PopCon.
“Thanks to the success of GenCon, we’ve really seen the rise and growth of other cons, including PopCon. So each year we expect a bigger and better turnout,” Lisa Wallace with Visit Indy said.
Organizers said PopCon is so successful that they’re already planning next year’s event. That will take place from July 7-9, 2017.
