President Trump offers rare praise to Mexico

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Trump spend Friday in California, once again making the case for a border wall.

The president offered rare praise to Mexico for stopping Central American migrants headed for the US.

The comments came only days after he threatened to shut down the southern border.

President Trump said his warning motivated Mexico to take action.

“If they apprehend people, at their southern border, where they don’t have to walk through…that’s a big home run,” he said.

On the ground in Calexico, California, the president toured areas where the government has expanded existing physical barriers on the border.

Meanwhile, in Washington, the wall continues to divide Congress.

Democrats are suing the president over his border emergency declaration.

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine says the declaration fails to live up to legal standards.

“We don’t think the president should be able to ransack the Pentagon budget for a non-military emergency,” he said.

Both the White House and Congress say they expect the Supreme Court to eventually decide the issue, however, it is not clear when the court may get the case.
