Protein bar maker expands recall

WASHINGTON (WISH) – The maker of popular protein bars has expanded a recall for a wide variety of its bars.

Rxbar says its bars might contain peanuts that are not declared on the ingredients list. The peanuts could trigger a life-threatening reaction in someone who is allergic to peanuts.

The company said the peanuts came from an ingredient supplied by a third party. Rxbar has changed suppliers for that ingredient.

Affected bars do contain a warning on the wrapper indicating they were manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts.

The recalled products are safe to eat for people who are not allergic to peanuts.

Rxbar had identified the potential for peanut in two varieties – Chocolate Sea Salt and Coconut Chocolate – in December and initiated a recall of those varieties. Thursday’s recall expanded the recall to added varieties.
