(WLFI/WISH) — Indiana and Purdue universities have canceled all sponsored trips abroad for spring break.

The ban at Purdue was originally just for countries at a high risk for the coronavirus.

Leaders at both universities say there are no known cases on their campuses. However, Purdue President Mitch Daniels said Thursday that one visiting faculty member is in self-quarantine.

If need be, Purdue is preparing to quarantine students and possibly turn to online classes.

Daniels said, “We are taking this very seriously. Where health and safety are concerned, we just try to leave nothing to chance.”

Junior Ashley Fritz was supposed to travel to Italy for spring break. She’s now seeking other plans. “It’s mostly at this point, I think, just disappointment. I don’t think a whole lot of people are thinking about the danger of the virus at this point.”

Purdue and IU each have webpages issuing updates on the coronavirus.
