Purdue student retracts sexual assault report

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) – Purdue University police say they’ve closed a case about a reported sexual assault on campus over the weekend because it’s not true.

According to a release, the Purdue University student who reported being sexually assault on campus Saturday retracted her account of the incident.

The assault was said to have happened near Fourth and Waldron Street. Officers blocked off the area near Wiley Dining Court to search for any possible clues and evidence. The university issued a text and email alert to students shortly after the reported assault.

Purdue police chief John Cox said the department’s investigation concluded the initial report was untrue. Chief Cox said he wanted to let the community know there is no ongoing threat.
