Race against the snow: Hoosiers clean up rain as snow moves in
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -The snow is here but some people are still cleaning up from the rain.
From power outages to flooded basements, nasty weather wreaked havoc on central Indiana Wednesday.
Sara Lootens, who works near downtown, said she came into work and saw three trash cans put out by the custodians. The cans were collecting the water coming through the roof. She called a local roofing company to fix the leak.
“With all the bad weather happening, I thought we need to get this looked at,” Lootens said.
The president of R. Adams Roofing said it was one of about 50 calls before noon Wednesday. He said his workers responded to as many leaking calls Wednesday as they had all month.
Overnight rain prompted dozens of accidents and according to the Indianapolis Power and Light Company, the storm caused hundreds of outages.
Hope Plumbing in north Indianapolis said the weather spiked their calls by more than 30 percent.
They don’t mind working in the rain, and neither does Ricardo Esquivel with the Adams Roofing Company.
“When we get every customer happy, we enjoy that,” Esquivel said.
Lootens said the leak slowed down as the rain stopped. But when the snow comes, she doesn’t want to see the trash cans catching water at her workplace.
