Race weekend hotels sold out since March

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – May isn’t even half over and it’s already looking like a record breaking month for the city of Indianapolis.

Every hotel room in the city is sold out for the race weekend.

In fact, the rooms have been sold out since March 15th, that’s eight weeks earlier than last year.

In addition, hotels are charging 20 percent more than they did last year.

Indianapolis tourism officials are thrilled.

“We’re having to place visitors, because of demand, as far as South Bend, Columbus, Muncie, Anderson. That’s a good problem to have when you’re in the business of promoting and marketing a city and for an event like the 100th running of the Indy 500,” said Chris Gahl, vice president of Visit Indy.

Gahl suggests looking at sites like hotels.com if you are still looking for a place to stay during race weekend.

He said occasionally cancellations open up. But some visitors are going another route and looking at sites like Air B&B.
