Rape reported at IU fraternity recruiting event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana University officials are investigating after a rape was reported at an off-campus apartment during a fraternity recruiting event.

The crime was reported to have happened in the early morning hours of Sept. 18. at an apartment in the 400 block of South Walnut Street.

Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity was hosting a recruiting event.

The fraternity has been placed under a suspension of activities by the campus’ office of student ethics.

IU released the following statement regarding the case:

No one has assigned guilt yet, but whenever a serious charge like this is brought, the university has the discretion to suspend a house’s social activities pending an investigation.”

IU officials also said a 19-year-old IU student has been identified as a suspect but that person is not a member of the fraternity.

The fraternity released the following statement:

Leadership of Delta Xi Chapter of The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity at Indiana University became aware of an alleged sexual assault and the chapter immediately contacted the local police.  Additionally, they notified the International Fraternity.

The accused individual is not a member or in any way affiliated with the chapter.

Following this incident, the chapter ceased all communications with this individual.  Chapter members are fully cooperating with the authorities and supporting the ongoing investigation.  University officials have placed Delta Xi Chapter on suspension of social activities, pending the results of the investigation.
