Recyclable toothpaste tubes to hit market in 2020

(CNN) — Colgate’s recyclable toothpaste tube has been five years in the making, but it’s almost ready.

The company says it has a final design for the tube, which is part of its larger goal of using recyclable packaging for all its products by 2025.

It’s a big deal because right now toothpaste tubes on the market contain a mix of plastics and aluminum that makes them impossible to recycle.

The company’s recyclable tube is set to hit store shelves in the United States in 2020 under Colgate’s natural-products brand, Tom’s of Maine.

After that, the company will gradually roll out recyclable tubes across all its brands in coming years.

Colgate says it plans to eventually share its recyclable tube technology with other companies that make plastic tubes.
