Review of Mounds Lake reservoir study raises new questions

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – Opponents of a proposed $450 million reservoir hope a review of a feasibility study helps kill the project.

The Mounds Lake reservoir would stretch from Anderson to Yorktown and would flood an area that includes a mall, businesses, about 400 homes and part of Mounds State Park.

The Herald Bulletin reports 14 Ball State University professors who conducted the peer review found “significant gaps” in data regarding the project’s environmental, cultural and economic impact.

Reservoir opponent Sheryl Myers of the Heart of the River group hopes the findings help sink the project before work proceeds on a far more costly study.

But a Ball State University professor says the peer review completed last month was designed to be critical and doesn’t suggest the project should be abandoned.
