Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners frustrated with more issues
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Samsung is stopping sales of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone after devices that were supposed to replace recalled models also caught fire.
Samsung customers in Central Indiana have been reporting issues with the Note 7 for months.
Philippe Curtis experienced his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 catching fire a few months ago.
“My daughter was playing on it a few minutes prior and she set it down on a work bench, and when she came back it was smoking,” he said, “When I picked it back up, when I flipped it over, flames were shooting out of the back of it.”
He notified Samsung and got another Note 7, but he’s still having problems.
“I got my new replacement phone and it’s overheated twice,” he said.
His friend Jason Scofield hasn’t had a Note 7 catch fire, but he’s experienced overheating.
“Back in the beginning of September, I called Samsung reporting that my phone had became very hot, before the general recall,” he said.
A replacement phone overheated and then yet another replacement device had the same issue.
“The third Note 7 that I received last night became 211 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to boil water,” he said.
The men were hoping Samsung would just fix the phone instead of stopping sales and production temporarily.
“We just want a phone that works,” Scofield said.
Samsung has offered Scofield a completely different phone, but he feels that isn’t enough after all the hassle he’s gone through.
“AT&T has been making accommodations for us to exchange our phones,” Scofield said, “I’m done with Samsung, I’ll probably be going to an iPhone.”
Scofield has contacted the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the agency is investigating.
Meanwhile he’s still trying to get his money back from Samsung.
“They can’t even give me a refund for the phone,” he said.
AT&T released a statement regarding the matter:
We are working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while the investigation is taking place.
AT&T will be replacing customers’ Note 7s with another phone of the customer’s choosing.
