Scholarship that honors late Purdue student now funded

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A Purdue University scholarship that honors a student who was killed in an off-campus apartment fire in 2013 has received enough gifts to begin offering its first scholarship.

Purdue’s College of Technology says that on March 2 gifts to the Scott A. Notary Memorial Scholarship exceeded the $25,000 needed to establish scholarship endowments.

Beginning next school year, a junior in the building construction management program will receive 5 percent of the total endowment every year.

The Journal & Courier reports the award is not merit-based and is available specifically for students with financial difficulties.

Scott Notary was 22 when he died along with his dog, Griffin, in a November 2013 apartment fire a few blocks from Purdue’s main campus.

Notary was a Purdue senior studying building construction management.
