Senator Donnelly discusses Comprehensive Addition and Recovery Act

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Senator Joe Donnelly joined 24-Hour News 8’s studios Thursday morning to discuss a tough issue that has nothing to do with this campaign season.

Donnelly said he is trying to bring attention to a law that just passed congress, which is the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act.

Donnelly authored the bi-partisan provision. It will change the way opioids are prescribed and aims to lower drug usage. The law will also help those who overdosed and survived with recovery.

“If we have someone who has suffered an overdosed and is brought back by anti-opioid drugs, we then sit with them and figure out how can we avoid this in the future; how can we get you help; how can we get you to a place where you are safe and you don’t have to worry about this anymore,” Donnelly said.

First responders in Indiana are able to use the anti-opioid drug Naloxone to reverse overdoses and revive those who may have otherwise died.
