INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Senator Joe Donnelly has been working to get money and support for a bipartisan bill that addresses the opioid problem.

It’s something he’s been working on for two years.

The bill is called CARA, or the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act.

It was created to address the opioid and heroin epidemic.

It does that by making sure the pills that are being prescribed are needed, by raising public awareness and by getting naloxone, the overdose drug, into the hands of more people.

“Dramatically reducing the number of elicit pills that are out on the streets on an everyday basis,” said Donnelly, “We hope to dramatically reduce the inventory. Additionally, what we’re going to do is for EMT’s help train EMT’s around our state and around our country in the use of Naloxone so that if there is an incident that occurs we can bring someone back to life.
