The way to get the best deals, some believe, is to camp out in front of the store.
“We’ve got hand warmers and blankets and feet warmers!” Angelina Chisman said.
Cameron Lumpkin of Indianapolis added, “And then another scarf underneath. I don’t play games! I’d prefer not to be freezing cold.”
It’s all about those Black Friday deals.
Chisman said, “We need TVs! My son wants a TV for Christmas.”
Chisman and her friend Lauren Matchen were first in line at 4 a.m. at Best Buy on the northeast side near Castleton Square mall for a 50-inch high-definition TV.
Lauren Matchen of Indianapolis said, “You’re crazy for spending that much money on something you can get for cheaper!”
A RetailMeNot survey said people are going to spend an average of about $750 from Black Friday to Cyber Monday. That’s an increase of more than $200 over the same time frame last year.
The National Retail Federation said 69 percent of Americans will shop between today and Cyber Monday. It’s the reason Lavon Bentley ate Thanksgiving Wednesday night.
Lavon Bentley, of Indianapolis said, “Honestly, today, in Best Buy, I’ll probably spend almost $800 maybe.”
Victoria Taylor said sitting out in the cold together actually creates a warm sense of community. “If we need to go to the restroom or to our cars to get warm, everybody’s kind of cool with that.”
