‘Sock Hat Bandit’ caught after 100 mph chase in Kentucky

COVINGTON, Ky. (WISH) — Police in Kentucky have apprehended the alleged “Sock Hat Bandit.”

Just before 1 p.m. Thursday, the Independence (Ky.) Police Department and other surrounding law enforcement agencies responded to a reported bank robbery in the 2000 block of Declaration Drive in Independence, Kentucky.

Police located and attempted to pullover a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle used in a previous robbery in Bellevue, Kentucky.

A pursuit began, traveling north on KY 17, and had the suspect strike several other vehicles. Officers said the chase reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

When the chase reached Covington, the suspect’s vehicle struck a tree but got out and continued on foot.

That’s when Brian Parnell, the alleged “Sock Hat Bandit,” was caught by the Covington Police Department.

WKRC in Cincinnati is reporting that shell casings were found in the area.

Parnell was transported to the Independence Police Department and interviewed by the FBI.

Police said that Parnell admitted to 9 out of 10 bank robberies.

Parnell was arrested on charges of robbery, two counts of wanton endangerment, and fleeing.
