INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — All southbound lanes of I-465 at West 10th Street were closed for over an hour Friday morning after a crane slid off an embankment into traffic.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-465 at mile marker 13.9 around 10:30 a.m.

According to the Wayne Township Fire Department, the crane separated from the tow vehicle and smashed into a utility pole, flattened a guardrail and headed straight down the embankment towards the interstate, before hitting a passenger car.
“The two occupants of the car were extremely lucky there was damage to their vehicle and they were checked out on scene and they are in good condition” said Wayne Township Fire Department Capt. Michael Pruitt
The driver told the Wayne Township Fire Department he saw the crane coming but didn’t have time to react. “The comment from the driver of the car was, ‘This is Friday the 13th,'” said Pruitt.
News 8 is told the crane was being towed to Indianapolis from Kokomo this morning. The trip had been uneventful until the crane separated and took an unscheduled and nearly disastrous alternative route.
