Southport police detective dies while working part-time job

SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WISH) — A detective with the Southport Police Department has passed away.

The department announced the passing of Detective Sgt. Jason Swanson on Twitter.

The department released this statement:

As you can imagine, we are devastated to learn of the passing of Southport Detective Sergeant Jason Swanson. 

At this time, we ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. 

The loss of a brother is never easy. Details will be released as they become available.

The police department saod he was working a part-time security job when he died. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Swanson had been with the department since March 2015.
