State senator using different tactic in bill for Indy Eleven stadium

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indiana state senator says it’s time to build a new downtown stadium as home for the Indy Eleven soccer team.

Also, he’s hoping to convince fellow lawmakers to finally sign off on the stadium.

Indy Eleven has tried to convince state lawmakers to approve bills to pave the way for a new stadium before, but State Senator Jack Sandlin says he’s going at it differently.

He’s proposing a bill not using taxpayer money.

Sandlin says the current bill would allow the Capitol Improvement Board to set up a sports district in Indianapolis.

That district would have to be a tax increment finace district, allowing a developer to get tax breaks over a 30-year period.
