Police tried to pull Padgett over at North Post Road and East 16th Street. They said he drove off and then crashed into a pickup truck and a BMW at South Arlington Avenue and South Brookville Road. Police said the crash happened at 7:16 p.m.

Police said Padgett suffered a broken leg and was continuing to recover Wednesday at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. Poilce also said medics took four of the six people in the other vehicles to hospitals with injuries considered to be nonlife-threatening.

Padgett had an outstanding warrant for theft.

State police said Wednesday that Padgett had been involved in a drug transaction involving heroin possibly laced with Fentanyl in the area of North Post Road and East 25th Street. Police were watching the transaction when a trooper tried to make a traffic stop with Padgett.

Padgett was booked into the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, reckless homicide and failure to return to lawful detention.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office indicated Ramsey died of multiple blunt force trauma, state police said.
