Suspect arrested for stealing dog from Terre Haute pet store

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The suspect who Terre Haute Police say stole a dog worth $1,700 has been arrested for theft.

On Wednesday morning police responded to a theft at Petland on the south side of Terre Haute. Police say two women walked into the store and one walked out with the puppy. A black and white Shih Tzu costing around $1,700.

The dog was returned on Wednesday evening, according to police.

The woman who took the puppy has been officially charged with theft. Sherri Gaitan, 51 of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail on Tuesday.

She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
