Suspect at large after IMPD officer-involved shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An IMPD officer was involved in a shooting on the northeast side of the city Monday evening, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials confirmed.

The shooting was related to a chase in the area of 33rd Street and Sherman Drive.

IMPD said that an officer was making a routine traffic stop of a gold Ford Taurus when the front seat passenger got out with a gun.

After warning him to drop the gun and the man refusing, the officer fired at the suspect, but the suspect was not hit.

The suspect then fled north on foot with the gun in his hand.

Two other men in the vehicle were detained.

A perimeter was set up and officers and K-9 units conducted a search, but the suspect was not found. Police did recover two weapons during the search.

The suspect is described as a black male with a light skin tone and long hair and wearing khaki shorts and no shirt.

No one was injured.

Police say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
