Suspect sought in Bartholomew County chase

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – The search is underway for a suspect in a chase in Bartholomew County Tuesday morning, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Around 3:30 a.m., on I-65 NB near the 76-mile marker, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle. Instead of stopping for the deputy, the vehicle fled and a chase began.

Deputies said the vehicle in question was used in an armed robbery in Nashville, Tennessee.

BCSO said the vehicle continued northbound on I-65 and at some point went south on US 31 to Lowell Road and then back north on US 31. Deputies used stop sticks at US 31 and 500 N as it continued north on US 31 and went back onto I-65 northbound, where it eventually crashed and rolled.

Following the crash, the two male suspects, including a 16-year-old, ran from the vehicle. Several hours later, the teenager was found a short time later at a house, where they were trying to get treatment for their injuries sustained in the crash.

A short time later, deputies learned of a vehicle theft of a 2016 Kia Sportage at a Waffle House in Taylorsville. Deputies believe the person responsible for the vehicle theft is the second suspect in the chase and crash.

Deputies said the second male suspect is thought to be armed, carrying a .45 handgun.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office at 812-379-1650.
