SWAT situation in Shelbyville ends

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The SWAT situation in Shelbyville has come to an end.

Police say the situation happened at a residence on Indiana Avenue.  Authorities say they were called out to the scene at approximately 9:15 a.m. to a battery complaint at Mobile Home Vila Trailer Park.

Lt. Michael Turner, public information officer with Shelbyville police, issued this statement:

The suspect, Ryan Foster (32 years old of Shelbyville), had left the scene.  At approximately 9:50am, officers located a vehicle that Foster was believed to be in at 702 Indiana Avenue.  Officers attempted to contact Foster.  While two officers were inside the residence, Foster fired one shot.  Officers backed out of the house and set up a perimeter.

The Shelbyville Police Department SWAT Team was called in along with negotiators.  Several attempts were made to contact Foster all which were unsuccessful.  Officers could see inside the room where Foster was last seen and were able to see a white male laying on the floor.  Officers made entry into the residence and located Foster on the floor deceased.  It appears that Foster suffered a self-inflicted gunshot.  During the incident, no officers returned gun fire with Foster.

At this time, this remains an active investigation.
