SWAT team situation resolved peacefully on near-north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A special weapons and tactics team was called to a house on the near-north side Friday night, and the situation was peacefully resolved about an hour later, police said.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a SWAT team was called to the Eugene Street area near East 30th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Sgt. Jim Gillespie with IMPD public affairs said in an email after the resolution, “Detectives are working through the incident on-scene. No injuries. Officers were originally dispatched on shots fired and when they arrived the shooter had barricaded himself in the house. He later came out peacefully.”

Police about 8:45 p.m. had responded to a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Eugene Street.

No additional details were immediately available from police.
