Team Owen runs Indy Mini from Pittsboro to Avon

AVON, Ind. (WISH) — Saturday’s record cold temperatures and this year’s health pandemic didn’t stop one Avon boy from reaching his goals.

Owen Mahan and the rest of Team Owen hit the pavement Saturday morning to run their own Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini Marathon, after the formal group race was canceled due to Marion County’s stay-at-home order.

The team, again featuring Mahan family friend Alli Louthain, started running from Pittsboro at 9 a.m. and arrived in Avon around 11 a.m. Owen was again in an athletic push-chair with his teammates running behind and alongside him.

News 8’s Brenna Donnelly shared Mahan’s story in 2019 as he prepared to run the Mini with Louthain. Mahan is in 6th grade, a burn survivor, double amputee, and motivational speaker at local elementary schools.

His campaign for kindness has touched many lives, along with his catch-phrase “It’s going to be a great day.”
