Teen accused of crashing into home, killing 2 children, to face adult charges

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WISH) – Prosecutors say a 17-year-old will be charged as an adult after police said she crashed a car into a Clinton County home last month and killed two girls inside.

Police said 17-year-old Alia Sierra sped over a hill on County Road 300 North, went airborne, lost control of the car and slammed into a home on a Wednesday night in July.

The crash killed 8-year-old Callie and 17-year-old Haleigh Fullerton. Their parents, Todd and Bridget Fullerton, said Sierra deserves to be charged as an adult but no punishment will take their pain away.

“I think we’re just going to learn how to live with this pain. I don’t see it every going away. I don’t think there’s going to be a day when I’m not missing them,” Todd said.

Detectives said they performed tests to see if Sierra was drinking or on drugs but prosecutors won’t reveal details of the case before she is charged.

Bridget is still recovering from a severe cut to her chest and the pain of losing her daughters. She said she’s glad Sierra is “going to be held accountable.”

“This has been so horrible for my family. My son was right there when it all happened and this has affected everybody,” Bridget said.

Investigators said five kids in the car – ages 12 to 17 – were treated at the hospital after the crash.

Bridget said Sierra doesn’t deserve a driver’s license, but the parents said they’re leaving the punishment in the hands of the prosecutor.

“Not to say she would take anybody else’s life, but who would have thought she would have taken my girls?” Todd said.

Todd and Bridget said Haleigh was on pace to be valedictorian and Callie was an 8-year-old who was full of joy.

“I’m proud to have been their dad even for that little bit of time,” Todd said.

Sierra will appear in adult court Friday morning. Police originally recommended she be charged with criminal recklessness with a vehicle resulting in death.
