Teen shot during gun transaction in Marion, in stable condition
MARION, Ind. (WISH) – A teenager was shot during a gun transaction in Marion Tuesday.
A 14-year-old was taken to the hospital after being shot during a gun deal Tuesday afternoon in Marion.
According to the Marion Police Department, the 14-year-old victim’s brother, a 16-year-old, had been in communication via social media with 22-year-old Jamar Barnett about a proposed gun deal.
Police said the 16-year-old was going to trade a .380 caliber handgun for a larger caliber.
As the 16-year-old and Barnett were meeting to exchange the guns, the 14-year-old showed up and confronted Barnett. Gunfire was then exchanged between Barnett and the 14-year-old.
The 14-year-old was struck in the chest and then was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Barnett quickly fled the scene in a vehicle.
