Thursday rain to bring brief heat relief

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Scattered showers and storms along with cooler temperatures will return Thursday.

Tonight

We could see an isolated shower or storm develop for the early evening hours, but overall we are looking at a very warm and quiet late evening. Temperatures will only fall to the lower to middle 70s overnight.

Rain returns Thursday:

A cold front pushing into central Indiana early Thursday morning will bring showers with a few thunderstorms just before to near the dawn hour. No severe weather is expected, but a few downpours could be possible as we gear up for the morning commute. The cold front will push through the state through the late morning, which should take the rain out of much of central Indiana just after lunch.

The rest of the afternoon will be dry, cooler and less humid, with highs in the middle 70s.

Friday:

Thursday’s cold front will return, pass through from the south as a warm front and spark scattered showers and storms for the very early morning hours. The warm front will lift north of the area by mid to late morning, leaving us dry with higher heat and humidity for the afternoon hours.

Highs top out in the lower 80s.

Weekend:

The weekend will have an active pattern but not a washout. Scattered showers and storms will be possible in the afternoon hours Saturday. A slightly lower chance for rain and storm chances will come in for Sunday. Both days should still have plenty of dry hours.

8-day forecast:

Warm weather will continue heading into the workweek. Highs will hold in the middle 80s Monday and Tuesday, and around 80 Wednesday and Thursday. The next chance for rain will arrive next Thursday.
