Top 8 things to do in Indy this weekend – Oct. 5-7

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Looking for something to do this weekend?

1) 10th Annual Indy’s Whisky & Fine Spirits Expo

This event continues to grow each year and now features over 300 spirits to taste, a gourmet buffet by Kahn’s Catering and an expanded lineup of producers and many special guests. The event is from 5-9 p.m. this Friday at The Montage. If you’re looking to sample, tickets will run you either $80 or $165, depending on the experience you’re looking for. Proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

2) Weekly Music Round-Up

Several big acts are performing in and around the I-465 loop this weekend. In addition to the single acts, the Doomed & Stoned Festival returns to Indiana City Beer for the third year this Friday & Saturday. The music festival The 21+ event is scheduled to feature 19 heavy bands, tons of merch tables, beers, food and your best buds. Tickets will run you $25-40. 3) Red Bull Air Race

The Red Bull Air Race returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Oct. 6-7. 4) A Flood of Fall Festivals

We’ve got a ton of festivals happening this weekend, the first of October! Two church festivals are set to happen this weekend within the 465 loop, including the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church Oktoberfest this Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and the Parish Festival at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Irvington this Thursday through Saturday with various hours each day.

Just east of town in Greenfield, a four-day festival centered around poetry, art and music begins this Thursday. The Riley Festival follows years of tradition by celebrating the birthday of the “Hoosier Poet” James Whitcomb Riley. It is a showcase for a wide variety of talent that runs continuously Thursday through Sunday. FULL SCHEDULE

The 14th Annual Indiana Renaissance Fair is this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. Step back in time with your whole family and experience the Golden Age of Queen Elizabeth I at The Indiana Renaissance Faire. They’ll have  costumed characters, full-contact non-choreographed jousting, period & pirate music, roving comedy, juggling, acrobats, knighting ceremonies, sword play and so much more. TICKETS

5) Lewis Black – The Joke’s On US Tour

Comedian Lewis Black will perform this Friday at the Murat Theatre at Old National Centre, beginning at 8 p.m. Known as the king of the rant, Lewis Black uses his trademark style of comedic yelling and animated finger-pointing to skewer anything and anyone that gets under his skin. His comedic brilliance lies in his ability to make people laugh at the absurdities of life, with topics that include current events, social media, politics and anything else that exposes the hypocrisy and madness he sees in the world. 6) Walks and Runs

The 23rd Annual Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben is this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Your hometown half is a gorgeous fall tour through the park and surrounding neighborhoods. REGISTER HERE

Taking place in downtown Indianapolis at City Market, the Uncorked Wine 5k Run/Walk starts with a wine tasting…and another from a different winery at each kilometer or so along the route. Enjoy a glass of your favorite at the finish line! Stay and enjoy a festival with all of the wineries and vendors in City Market’s Mezzanine. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk To End Alzheimer’s in Indianapolis is this Saturday. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Walk will begin after the conclusion of Opening Ceremony which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Brunch Run 2018 is this Sunday beginning at on E Michigan St. at The Rathskeller. This “Sunday Funday” race includes ONE complimentary Bloody Mary, mimosa or beer for racers 21+, FULL Sunday Brunch from the award winning kitchen of The Rathskeller, live music, a finishers medal and a t-shirt. Start time is 10 a.m.

7) PreEnact Indy: Back by Popular Demand

After the successful inaugural event last fall with thousands of people attending, PreEnact Indy will return to MONON 16. The performance is Saturday, October 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. FREE and open to the public, the event will blur the lines between a community festival and theater production.Unique and vibrant communities benefit the whole city. 8) Hoops for Heroes

It’s that time of the year again when two basketball giants meet on the hardwood to settle a score. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will take on the Indianapolis Fire Department to see not only who is the better team, but to also raise money for the Julian Center. The doors open at 5 p.m. this Saturday to Skillman Court at Nicoson Hall on the UIndy campus. In addition to the Hoops for Heroes game itself, police and fire vehicles will be parked outside before the matchup for the kids, along with mounted patrol horses, face painters, Boomer the Pacers mascot and his friends and more! The event is FREE!
