INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The greatest spectacle in racing is Sunday, but there was a special race at Indianapolis Zoo Wednesday morning.
The 36th annual Zoopolis 500 took place at 10:30 a.m. featuring tortoise racing. It’s a unique twist to the Indy 500 and usually brings in big crowds.
The 2013 Indianapolis 500 champion Tony Kanaan dropped the green flag to start the race.
There were 5 contestants and this year’s winner was Marco.
A tray of delicious fruits was waiting for him in the winner’s circle and fans were able to congratulate him after the race.
The winning “pit crew” enjoyed icy cold bottles of milk.
