Traffic problems linger as snow removal continues
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Another round of snow covered central Indiana on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for areas south of Indianapolis that began at 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Snow arrived shortly after midnight from the west, and gradually filled in across the state by early morning.

Snow showers moved into the metro area around 3 a.m., quickly covering local roads and interstates. Steady snow with moderate to heavy bursts can be expected for much of the Wednesday morning commute.
Snow will quickly start to taper off from west to east by late morning into the early afternoon.
Snowfall accumulations look to be around 1 to 3 inches across the area. Areas south and southwest of Indianapolis are more likely to see 3 inches. Most of the metro will likely see 1 to 2 inches of snowfall.

The morning commute was tricky for some people, and overwhelming for state troopers in other areas. Wednesday morning, Indianapolis state police are not reporting any crashes or slide-offs, but some other counties are:
- Hamilton County: 2 crashes
- Hendricks County: A couple property damage scenes, nothing major
- Johnson County: Since 5 a.m., worked 4 crash sites
- Morgan County: Around 6 slide-offs
- Shelby County: Around 4 crashes since the snow started
Pendleton dispatch said “It’s crazy right now! There are not enough troopers to take of (all the accidents).” They have 24 reports of minor crashes or slide-offs.
In Bloomington, state police are reporting one minor crash involving a plow and another vehicle. And in Lafayette, police are reporting a number of slide-offs but nothing serious.
On Wednesday afternoon other Indiana counties reported several closures, slide-offs. In Vigo County responded to multiple crashes on I-70. And in Huntington County the southbound lanes of I-69 were closed when two semis and several other vehicles collided. Luckily no one was hurt in the crash. Delaware County was also reporting numerous slide-offs on I-69. At 1 p.m. traffic was backed up on I-70 in Wayne County near the 153 mile marker.
ISP said between 2 a.m. and 12 p.m. they responded to 118 personal property damage crashes, 11 personal injury crashes, 26 slides-offs and assisted 24 motorists.
