Traffic stop leads to arrest of Indy man who left scene of 2015 fatal crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A traffic stop led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man who left the scene of a fatal crash from 2015.

According to police, an officer was patrolling the area of 96th Street and Interstate 69 when he saw a black 2001 Ford Crown Victoria enter the ramp to I-69. He said he noticed the driver not wearing a seat belt as he passed. Police said after the officer got behind him, he sped above the posted speed limit.

The officer pulled him over on I-69 near I-465. The driver did not provide identification and told the officer false identifying information, according to police.

After investigation, the officer identified the driver as 25-year-old Andy Raul Orellana De Leon of Indianapolis. He was arrested and transported to the Marion County Adult Processing Center.

De Leon was wanted on an active Marion County arrest warrant in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Indianapolis in Oct. 2015. The bicyclist died at the intersection of East Euclid Avenue and Michigan Street.

This is an ongoing investigation.
