Tuesday’s business headlines
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Here’s a look at Tuesday’s business headlines.
Men, women
Nearly three in 10 men says that women’s gains toward equality have come at their expense, according to a report released by Pew Research Center.
Though a significant portion of men think women’s progress is negatively impacting them, the overall report found that the majority of Americans, 57%, think the U.S. has not gone far enough with granting women equal rights.
Airlines
Southwest Airlines says it is likely to cut jobs unless bookings “triple.”
Meanwhile, American Airlines is the latest carrier warning staff about potential furloughs.
United last week warned close to 40% of its staff that they could possibly be furloughed if there aren’t enough volunteers for buyouts and early retirements.
Online food
Online food prices have climbed 4% over the past six months, according to the latest Adobe online commerce report.
Grocery E-commerce accelerated amid the COVID-19 pandemic and food producers struggled to keep up with continued high demand.
The survey found that the June sales increase corresponded with increased concern about contracting coronavirus and as more food retailers offered the option for grocery pickup after ordering online.
Apple
Apple is readjusting operations as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the U.S. and some other parts of the world.
The technology giant is pushing retail staff to work remotely as the virus forces the company to shut some of its stores again.
IT told staff in a memo that a full return to U.S. officers won’t occur before the end of the year.
