Two critical after Carmel crash
CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – Two people were seriously injured in a late night crash in Carmel Thursday.
Officials with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department say it happened at 116th and North Meridian streets.
According to a spokesperson with the Carmel Fire Department, a construction worker was hit by a vehicle and suffered a significant injury to his leg. The striking vehicle flipped several times, and the driver crawled out.
An INDOT spokesperson said Friday morning the person hit on US 31 by a car overnight was a truck driver delivering beams for an overpass.
Firefighters were already in the area responding to an earlier minor crash, so they were able to quickly respond to the scene.
Both victims were transported to the Level 1 Trauma Center at St. Vincent Hospital on 86th Street in critical condition.
The Carmel Police Department is currently investigating what may have caused the crash.
Fire officials are asking all drivers to stay cautious, go slow and stay within the speed limit in construction zones.
