Two possible Marion locations tied to 50 fraud reports
MARION, Ind. (WISH) — Marion police are sending a warning to residents after dozens of people filed credit card fraud reports.
According to police, all victims reported using their cards at one of two locations. The first location was at BP station located at 2nd Street and Baldwin Avenue. Police said the car wash machine may have had a skimming device, but it has since been removed. Police believe that a second location might be at the self-check out register at a Wal-Mart located at 3240 South Western Avenue.
Nearly 50 people filed credit card fraud reports with the Marion Police Department in just the past few weeks.
“We’re running out of choices. People are finding different ways to steal from people everyday. Your chances of spending your money safely are slim-to-none,” said Marion resident Austin Faulkner, Sr.
The victims reported that their cards were never out of their possession. Yet, somehow crooks got their information. Police believe their cards were skimmed, but have not been able to find a skimming device.
“That’s a little disturbing,” said Marion resident Kellee Perry.
Faulkner added, “That does concern me. I do use a card but, for those reasons, I don’t use them at the gas pump or I don’t give my card number over the phone.”
Police say the thieves are making purchases outside of Grant County. Some of the victims reported purchases made as far south as Indianapolis and Greenwood.
If you’ve been to either of these locations, police are asking that you to cancel your bank or credit card.
“That is the day and age we live in. Criminals will find a way. Everybody wants something for nothing,” said Perry.
Police encourage you to not just contact your financial institution, but also police if you are, or become a victim. Call the Marion Police Department at 765-662-9981 or go to the station located at 301 South Branson Street with any questions.
