VIPS of Indiana Helping people ‘see’ art in a different way with the ReVision Art Gallery

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Visually Impaired Preschool Services, also known as VIPS, is once again making sure everyone can experience an art gallery with the ReVision Art Exhibition.

This annual event is made so that people who struggle to see can experience art in their way, by touching it. Often we are told we aren’t allowed to touch art, but this flips the script and it is a very interesting experience.

ReVision is interactive in more ways than one. It’s a multi-sensory experience, and artist information is in Braille as well. There are QR codes used so people can hear audio recordings from each artist.

If you aren’t visually impaired and want to experience the art like it was intended, there are blindfolds and visual impairment simulator goggles are on hand to test out. 

VIPS of Indiana serves over 200 kids throughout the state. They work to help kids toddlers and newborns who struggle with blindness or visual impairment get off on the right start. Many times that early intervention helps the child grow.

Friday is opening night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with food and drinks from local restaurants to celebrate. The exhibit runs March 8 through April 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Located at the Indiana Interchurch Center Art Gallary on 42nd Street and Michigan Road, just north of Crown Hill Cemetary.

Much of the art will be for sale to help with fundraising for the organization.
