Vlasic developing pickle chips made from real pickles

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Pucker up, folks! One of America’s most popular pickle brands is exploring the idea of pickle chips—a crispy snack made solely of pickles.

Congara Brands, the parent company of Vlasic, says it is developing a number of new products, including pickle chips and other snacks like Slim Jim Fried Pork Rinds.

“Pickles has always been a flavor that people have loved in snacks, whether it’s potato chips or even in our Bigs Vlasic dill sunflower seeds,” Thomas M. Mcgough, the co-chief operating officer of Conagra said in an interview with Food Business News. “But pickles themselves are a great snack, essentially no calories or carbs.”

Mcgough said the chips are “vacuum-fried” and packaged in snack-size bags. But it’s unclear when the product will hit shelves. A spokesperson for Congara told News 8 sister station, WFLA, that the pickle chips are “in our innovation pipeline, but still in development.”
