Volunteers in Carmel assemble caregiver kits for Alzheimer’s Association

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Volunteers came together Friday to show their support for caregivers.

Bankers Life and the CNO Financial Group put together 150 caregiver kits for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The kits will be presented as part of the 17th annual Bankers Life Forget Me Not Days campaign.

The Alzheimer’s Association says more than 16 million Americans provide more than 18 billion hours of unpaid care for the more than 5 million Americans living with the disease.

Elizabeth Kinder manager of community relations for CNO Financial Group, said, “Probably the first thing we think of first when we hear Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. What we don’t think about is the caregiver. So, I think this small gesture was just an inspiration to take some time, practice self-care. It means so much to the caregivers.”

Each caregiver kit includes a flowerpot with forget-me-not flower seeds, support resources, coloring books and pencils, lotion and handwritten cards to caregivers.
