Volunteers needed for east side beautification project

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One of the Indianapolis neighborhoods hardest hit by crime and violence will be the center of a clean-up effort this week.

Peace Learning Center is asking for volunteers March 24 through March 26 to help with the “Koinonia Project”, a beautification project aimed to revitalize the east side of Indianapolis.

Leaders say there will be volunteers from IMPD, IFD, and EMT on hand, but more children and adults are needed to help.

The efforts Tuesday will focus on 38th Street between Franklin Road and Mittheoffer Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the North Eastwood Shopping Center parking lot at 38th Street and Post Road. Work begins at 9 a.m., continues until noon and then resumes from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. A free lunch will be provided.

Organizers will follow the same scheduled Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday the focus will be on East 42nd Street and Thursday a median on Post Road will be spruced up.

Volunteers can come for a full day or shorter shifts. The Peace Learning Center encourages the use of #CommonUnity during the work to spread the word on social media.
