Walmart rewards woman who returned cart during torrential downpour

HURRICANE, W.Va. (WFLA/CNN) — Walmart is recognizing and honoring a woman who they say went above and beyond to return a shopping cart.

Last month, a woman recorded Sue Johnson returning her cart outside of a Walmart in West Virginia during a torrential downpour.

Johnson, the shopping cart hero, says she shops at the store all the time and did what she hopes anyone else would do.

“All I did was the right thing. I mean I didn’t do anything special — except I got wet,” she said.

But Walmart says her actions were special. And now they’re rewarding her for what she did.

“It was quite the sight to see, so Walmart just really appreciates what she did to go out of her way to return that cart,” store co-manager Chloe McDonald told WCHS. “We just wanted to do something to pay her back.”

Walmart decided to give Johnson free online grocery pickup once a week for a full year. All she has to do is order online and pick up her groceries at the front door.

The retail giant also gave her a cart trophy that gives her the title of “A Walmart Legend.”
