Warm temperatures and chances for weekend storms

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On this Memorial Day weekend, temperatures will remain in the 80s with chances for showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday.

Friday night:
There is a chance of a stray storm mainly north of interstate 70. Temperatures overnight will drop to the upper 60s.

Saturday
The temperature will continue to climb to the mid to upper 80s. As temperature increases, chances for storms also will develop, especially in the afternoon. Some strong to severe storms are possible in the afternoon, with chances of heavy downpours, strong winds and lightning. The day will be mostly cloudy. On Saturday night, storms will continue and temperatures will fall to the upper 60s.

Sunday
Showers will start the day for the Indianapolis 500. Afternoon storms will start to develop, especially after 2 p.m. These storms may be strong to severe. The high temperature for race day will be near 80, but will feel warmer with humidity.

Memorial Day
Isolated showers and storms continue into the holiday, with temperatures in the lower 80s.

Showers and storms will continue throughout the week. On Thursday, a cold front will bring slightly cooler temperatures and dry air back to Indy.
